La Cañada Flintridge is a city in Los Angeles County, California, United States. The population was 20,318 at the 2000 census. As of 2009, Its ZIP code of 91011 ranks the city as the 113th most expensive city to live in the United States.[6]

Part of the name for La Cañada Flintridge comes from the Spanish word canada, meaning canyon, gorge, ravine. In Spanish, this has a tilde (ñ) and is pronounced “canyada” [kaˈɲaða]; the English pronunciation is /kənˈjɑːdə/. “Flintridge” is simply pronounced as the two English words “flint” and “ridge”, but does not refer to an outcropping ridge of flint (see history section). The name has nothing to do with the country Canada (whose name derives from the St. Lawrence Iroquois word for “village” or “settlement”).
